what are sample based libraries?

I am confused.

I have Logic on my computer but I save all my projects to an external drive, not the system drive, at the end of each day I drag the project from my external drive to replace an updated copy to another external drive.

All working fine.

But I have read that my sample based libraries should be on an external drive.

What does this mean? What are sample based libraries? And how do I get them OFF my computer to external drives?

I am worrying about this as I keep hearing about it.

Many thanks.

kerochan, could you provide a link to the source? As I understand this statement, it means it's recommended to have sample libraries on an external drive. The rationale, first of all, is that they are bulky and may quickly clog all available disk space. On the other hand, DAWs such as Ableton Live stream audio from HD rather than load samples into RAM, and that may work better when samples are streamed from external and not system drive.

Bottom line is, if Logic works fine, don't fix what's not broken 🙂
