Hi johncunno,

Apple discontinued their Print Products Service on September 30th, so you just missed the cut-off.

The only way to produce projects created from within Apple is via one of the extensions. My company, PrestoPhoto, also offers legacy printing of projects via Exporting to a PDF.

Since calming down and having another go I've had progress.

First, update your machine to the latest operating system - mojave.

Secondly, down load Mimeo photos

Once this is down you can then go back into Apple Photos and can convert the book project into either a pdf or import into mimeo. The look and feel is very similar. Although I'm yet to purchase, I will be shortly.

Hope this helps. And if Apple is reading this, my apologies for the earlier profanities. But hey, a warning up front wouldn't go astray. These things should be easy!

As I am still on High Sierra (and Photos 3.0), I could make a Project and a pdf with that Project and send it to photographerbook.de.

The book turned out quite well (and less expensive than the original Apple books). But as I get to know, to make Projects

with the Apple tools will not work any longer in Mojave (i.e. Photos 4.0). The possible solution is to use the special Page layouts

of Presto Photos - so via Pages you can create a PDF of your book and send it to Presto Photos -- or -- you keep High Sierra on

an additional external disk and go on creating books under High Sierra.

Another option is - at least in High Sierra, or if you still have an old Photo book project:

You can create a PDF of your book project (at least this works with High Sierra) and send it - for instance in Germany -

to photographerbook.de. The even offer a decent description of how to do it: https://www.photographerbook.de/fotobuch/fotobuch-foto-app-iphoto/

I had a 100 page 28x21 cm hardcover book printed a week ago and found it as good as the former Apple books (and it is less expensive).

So, if you still have a High Sierra system, I advise you to keep it on an additional hard disk before you upgrade the main disk to Mojave (one never knows what is going to happen with Photos in the near future, and hard disks are really cheap nowadays).

I'd better not update to Mojave then if I want to create books the way I am used to, and to use PDF to export them, Right?

Right, unless you still have iPhoto 9.6.1 or Aperture 3.6 installed. Both applications are still letting you create PDFs of books, even on Mojave, but you cannot order the books from Apple any longer. All you will be getting is the PDF. But with Photos 4.0 on Mojave you will not even be able to create the PDF.

Yes, that's right, léonie, but my answer concerned Mimeo photos! I already successfully ordered from photographer books and was quite satisfied with the quality. But as far as I know, from Mimeo you cannot produce a pdf to have it printed by photographer books :-( And, pdfs only can be made with High Sierra Photos and not any more with the Mojave Version of Mac OS Photos.

There is one other possible solution: Presto Photo offers an app with (photobook) Templates for Pages, but not for all sizes. I have not tried their application yet, and I also don't know if their pdf from the Pages software could be printed by somebody else apart from Presto Photo.

Not at all helpful;

I transferred to "Photos", since iPhoto discontinued printing;

I have spent two days transferring libraries, correcting errors in default settings etc...

I now I learn "Photos" goes the same way, discontinuing printing.

-What is the use of the 'Buy Book' button... Just a decoration?

And why does it replies with numerous questions on the adress, format on telephone number etc, if there is no service behind. My version should be updated - I downloaded it from Apple, together with High Sierra three days ago.

-Most irritating. Two days and an incredible amount of adrenaline wasted.

Hi Meghan,

I am trying to upload onto Presto Photo a pdf of the calendar that I just completed using Apple Photos (soooooo frustrating that Apple allowed me to create a calendar when they no longer print them..), and after 30 mins the process is still not complete. I am seeing the message: "Creating press-ready image..."

Is that normal? I was able to upload the pdf very quickly but I'm wondering is it usual for the next step to take so long? I just want to make sure I am doing everything correctly! Also, do you ship finished calendars to the UK and Ireland?

Many thanks!

Francesca

PrestoPhotos only accepts PDF files for books. Calendars must be created with their app or online at their website.

Do you have a FedEx Business and Print Center near you? They accept PDF files for calendars and can print and bind a 8.5 x 11 calendar from a PDF file. However, when bringing the file into them in person the calendar is quite expensive, about $45 per.

FedEx has a website where you can create the calendar online and have it printed at your local FedEx center. That's only $20 per, more in line with what Apple charged. I looked at the process online and it seemed to be pretty straight forward.

I was surprised to get it in less than a week - and you have a real address, you know what printer they use and you have also

a phone number to call in case of problems.

So I think that for German customers photographerbook.de is quite a decent solution if they want to print projects with Photos, as they dont have to pay the sometimes horrendous shipping charges from the US.

They do not accept Aperture pdfs (sorry - there were better design options - Master layouts etc. in Aperture).

I am still looking for an Aperture replacement. But I fear that other propietary solutions could end the same way as

Aperture did (also, Lightroom or Capture One - closest to Aperture - is way to expensive for non-professional photographers).

Thanks for the confirmation about photographerbook.de. iPhoto is still running well on my MacBooks, so i will be able to create books in iPhoto, and it is good to know a local service with short shipping times.

I am quite happy with Aurora HDR and Luminar for editing as an Aperture replacement, and looking forward to the new version Luminar with libraries, that will be released soon.
