A NVRAM/PRAM reset is ALWAYS needed on my MacBook Pro to get the camera to work

For some reason, the camera on my MacBook Pro is not working. Whether I'm trying to FaceTime, Skype or use any other app that requires the camera. It simply won't turn on.

The only way to get it to work is by doing a NVRAM/PRAM reset. After the restart, the camera works just fine. But it will usually only work for one instance, then it's back to not working and square one.

I'm currently on Mojave but this issue was also on Sierra and High Sierra.

Please try the following, in order. Stop at any step where the issue is resolved:

  3. Run an EtreCheck report and post it here so that we can help diagnose any issue that we may uncover with your Mac.

You can download EtreCheck Pro fromhere or download it from the Apple App Store.

Start EtreCheck from a normal user account. Optionally, you can run it from a user account with Administrator privileges for additional details.

Select a problem from the drop-down menu to enable the "Start EtreCheck" button. Optionally, you can add comments on what issues your Mac is experiencing, especially to aide others with similar Mac issues.

    Click on Start EtreCheck

Allow the program to run to completion.

When done, select Report from the left-side window to display it.

    • Select the "Share Report" icon.

      Select Copy Report

    • Paste the report to your reply post. (Note: The EtreCheck report does NOT contain any personal information.)
