Since upgrading my 2014 Macbook Air to Mac OS Mojave, I can no longer import photos from my Android Pixel 2 phone.
It sees that I have connected some kind of camera and I select "PTP" on my phone, but it doesn't find any photos.
I do not have this problem on El Capitan or any other past versions of Mac OS

Photos on Mojave is broken, not Android. I'm running High Sierra and Mojave on separate partitions, and Photos can import from my OnePlus 3T just fine on H.S., but not on Mojave.
No need to make excuses for app developers; if they don't want to support the photo transfer protocol that everyone has been using for years, people can make up their own minds how many new red marks go in the Apple column of their platform evaluation matrix. I use W10, Ubuntu, MacOS, and a couple of odd platforms, and right now, Mojave is the only one that can't do it.
I'll do the ol' feedback thing and expect to see it fixed just in time for 10.15 to be announced next June.
Meanwhile, there are several inconvenient workarounds based on copying the photo files to the Mac using, for example, Android File Transfer, which still works, and then importing them into Photos. Works, but is unpleasant.
Check the Android Pixel 2 website for Mac support. Compatibility with third party software and hardware is not Apple’s responsibility.
So... is the Apple Photo App that is installed by default considered a third party app? Is that the argument you are attempting to make here?
Are you seeing the problem with 10.14.1? I haven't tested this since the update (got other problems to keep me busy with H.S. and Mojave - this photos thing is more an inconvenience than anything).
Yes. It is 10.14.1. As I use photos very heavily in my work, it adds considerable time to my job. Looking at alternatives to replace reliance on Photos as it is so critical.
10.14.2 here. Still no joy. Quite a pain. I did report via the black hole that is feedback. Maybe it'll be fixed in 10.15.
In 10.14.2 Android File Transfer doesn't work, so there's no way to copy from Android devices to a Mac. It would be wonderful if this was sorted sooner rather than later, please Apple!

That would at least get the files onto your Mac's disk, and from there you can import them into Photos.
No, this won't enable Photos to see the image files on your phone. It's a workaround to get your workflow up and running again.

Nothing new. Still broken in 10.14.2, but maybe 10.14.3 will bring something. I doubt it, though. No idea where this sits in Apple's priorities, but it's not at the top.
Noticed this issue after updating to Mojave from High Sierra a few weeks ago. Just updated to 10.14.3 and it's still broken.
Never had a problem importing photos from my Android device pre-Mojave.
