Import my videos from my iPhone to my MBP

Both devices are up to date. I just want to save my video's to my MBP (in Photo's) so I can use them to make a commercial. I shot them on my iPhone X and the MBP is a late 2011 with the latest OS and IOS on them. Do I have to use a third party app to do this?

Thank you!

Both devices are up to date.

Does that mean, your iPhone is running iOS 12 and the Mac is running macOS 10.14 Mojave?

If your Mac is running macOS 10.14 Mojave, you can simply plug the iPhone into a USB port of your Mac, launch Photos and download your videos into the Photos.app.

This should work, if you do not have iCloud Photo Library enabled on the iPhone. Check this in Settings > Your Name > iCloud Photos

A recent system upgrade may have enabled iCloud Photo Library without you noticing it.

The MBP however is still at High Sierra Version 10.13.6 (17G65). This is the first time it has not updated. I guess the 2011 will not be updated.

Your Mac model is not on the list of compatible devices for Mojave, see: macOS - How to Upgrade - Apple

These Mac models are compatible with macOS Mojave:

  • MacBook (Early 2015 or newer)
  • MacBook Air (Mid 2012 or newer)
  • MacBook Pro (Mid 2012 or newer)
  • Mac mini (Late 2012 or newer)
  • iMac (Late 2012 or newer)
  • iMac Pro (2017)
  • Mac Pro (Late 2013; Mid 2010 and Mid 2012 models with recommended Metal-capable graphics cards)

I have tried to use the USB cable that came with my phone but none of the video's will transfer. I even turned off iCloud and did a complete "Backup" of the phone. They are not in iTunes or Photo's that I have been able to find.

The last time my video's backed up were May 8th 2016.

Is there a check box somewhere I can check to make them save to my MBP?

Many thanks!

Barry

This worked. When I switched off the iCloud setting in my phone and gave it time to download all the Hi-Res pictures, it began to show in my "Photo's" app on the left hand side. When I clicked on the icon all of my pictures and video's show up and all I had to do was import them.

Thanks so much for taking the time to educate me on this feature!!!
