Creating disk image, operation canceled

Fresh installation of Mojave on Mac Mini 2012.

Trying to make a disk image from the Time Machine disk from which settings were restored. Operation starts, then Unmounting "disk" is displayed and immedeately "Operation canceled" without any error message.

Disk is removed from time machine. Permissions are read/write. I could make image on my MBP from the same disk without any issue. Also, on Mini I was able to make image from some random flash drive. What is wrong?

Thanks.

Sorry, forgot the most important thing. MBP is High Sierra.

There seems to be a difference. High Sierra's Disk Utility sees Time Machine disk (if removed from Time Machine) as normal External Disk (yellow icon). But Mojave's Disk Utility sees it always as Time Machine Disk (green with Time Machine icon) and probably has some kind of restrictions in place?

But why would Apple want to prevent making image from Time Machine disk?
