Testing this today I can put an audio CD in the drive and have it play through HomePod if iTunes is playing to the computer and I have my Mac's audio output routed to a HomePod. I cannot make it work with iTunes routing the audio straight to HomePod, nor will the Mac see my stereo pair properly. You can make it work from a Mac, but it isn't ideal.

The latest iTunes will Airplay to a Homepod, or even better, a stereo pair. So if your Mac is set up to play CDs from iTunes it should work well.
However it may be more convenient to import the CD music into iTunes first and then it is available at any time.
see the Apple support document suggested by rudgegar for more info.
Thanks for your answers. I managed to play CDs that I imported to iTunes. But not directly without importing. (There are 1.000 of it and some I really listen to once in while …) My Macbook runs with the latest software (Mojave). How do I set it up to play CDs from iTunes as you mentioned?
Thanks in advance for any help.
Thank you very much. This works!
You're welcome. 🙂
