I'm thinking maybe there are different issues going on. Some have stated theirs bings continuously, others only from time to time, completely randomly. Mine seems to be the latter. I cleaned both the back of my watch, and the charger face to make sure there wasn't anything interfering with the connection. It seemed to work. But then last night, around 2am I woke up and touched my watch to see what time it was, and a few minutes later, it binged! I'm beginning to think it's the charger. Maybe when I touched my watch, it dislodged the connection ever so slightly. I think maybe the charger connection deteriorates over time, not sure why or how. I think I'm going to go over to the apple store today, and buy the stainless steel charger and see if that doesn't fix it.
I think there are two possible causes,
1. If this is the same tone you get when first connecting the charger, the charger may be disconnecting then reconnecting (at least logically if not physically), so it would be worth testing with a different USB power adapter and magnetic cable, according to what you have available. I know you have the adapter which charges your iPhone, so that would be perfect for testing.
2. Something actually wrong in the watch, either software or hardware. Software is a prime suspect because it started with the update. You could try unpairing and re-pair to your phone again to force reinstalling the Watch software. If that still doesn't work the last resort is Contact Apple Support and arrange to get it checked by Apple. Don't just skip to calling Apple Support, make sure you already tried the earlier steps because they will want to try these first.
Don't forget you can charge your watch at any time, you don't need to wait until overnight for testing the fixes!
Yes, a new one. We’ve tried 6 different chargers so don’t think that’s the problem. Thanks for your suggestions. I’m fairly convinced now that it’s an OS problem relevant to Series 3 only as the problem coincided with the upgrade to OS5 in about June 2018. My husband’s Series 4 doesn’t have the issue.
Hey
I have checked various post and I could see that Apple with OS6 have killed all after market USB magnetic chargers (and as per Apple store that can be due to the chip and OS collaboration which comes only with Apple chargers or Apple Certified chargers like Belkin)
So if you are facing this with Apple orignal charger with OS6 - thats a different angle to check out. Have you checked with someone else's original set of adaptor and charger?
If yes and you are still in same loop - I am not sure what can cause this. You can probably open a case with Apple support
Cool, that sounds like a solution. I thought about a wrong position of the watch, too.
The day before yesterday I've tested different things at home.
I charged the watch fully to 100% via Nomad. No chiming occured. I switched to the original charger, again no chiming.
So I switched back to Nomad. No chiming.
Then I recognized that I haven't set the alarm clock in the watch. The alarm was set when the chiming problem first occured. So I've set the alarm, put the watch back on the Nomad, and immidiately the watch was chiming. That was very strange. I switched back again to the Apple charger, no chiming, back to Nomad, no chiming. So I was out. I couldn't explain that to anything.
Yesterday evening I put the watch on the Nomad again, at 100% no chiming for hours.
So the wrong position could really be a problem.
I've contacted Nomad 2 days ago but haven't heard anything.
By the way, is your Nomad Base Station also "coil whining" when you put your ear near the station ?
Thanks, Tobias
I've been working this through Apple support. I have a stainless steel Apple Watch 4. They have been tenacious in helping solve the re-pinging issue but as of yet, nothing. What we have done:
1--Tested through obvious things...hard reset; unpairing; other charging cables; other outlets. No results.
2--They had me take a video of the issue for dev to see. This was done. Based on this, they...
3--...took back the watch and re-issued a new one. Same result.
Awaiting any next steps with Apple. We may have reached the end of the road as I suspect this is a software glitch. If so, it did not get corrected in the 6.1 update.
Chris—if you scroll above you’ll see I have this issue with a stainless steel 4 Watch; have tried multiple outlets and three different chargers. We have unpaired it; set it up as new and Apple has even replaced the watch after seeing a video of the issue going through multiple pings 2 minutes and 10 seconds apart. (Dev asked for this).
I’m still working the issue through Apple, awaiting another direction to try.
The Watch only goes through this multiple pinging when fully charged (not on the way to full charge) which to me doesn’t sound like a contact issue.
The problem has nothing to do with the stainless steel inductive charger. I'm using such a charger and it chimes constantly after reaching >90% charge (just as stated over and over again this thread).
I see that 770 people checked that "I have this question, too" so this is a common problem. I don't know whether that reassures me or not.
My Apple Watch 4, aluminum with cellular, started the chirping on the charger about a month ago. It happens after I have fallen asleep, so I assume the reports above are correct that it only happens when the watch is nearly fully charged. I have the latest updates. I normally use the 'ring' charger where the charging disc pops up in the middle, but the original small disk charger does the same thing.
So what you are saying is that a plastic magnetic charger is not fit for purpose, that can't be right! Apple need to release a fix for this issue.
As I've said previously OS 5.1.2 update was my problem it was fine before the update, therefore it must be a software issue for which Apple need to issue a fix.
this is appears to be a software issue, not hardware.
My problem seemed to go away after I got a new cord. Then I downloaded the new IOS and its back!
That's crazy. You should push Apple until they replace your watch. They've been claiming this has been software related for almost 2 years, yet still people get this problem.
Based on what I understand and infer - OS6 is not supporting any after market/non Apple certified chargers/cables.
Hi. So I sent my watch back to Apple for repair and they also sent it back to me saying they couldn't replicate this issue. I contacted Apple support again and told them and they basically berated me saying i should have known it was a software issue and they can't help me.
Continuous chime when charging
