10.13.6 Macbook air 2011, after update system language switched to English, now can't switch languages back to German or any other language, languages can't be added from the scroll down menu, everything remains English.
Any other advice other than the 'normal' procedure from the languages and region menu?

If you have your machine set for automatic updates, you should consider deactivating that, it could cause you major problems if you don't have a backup clone of your system to fall back on.

Hey Tom,
thanks for answering. I was on High Sierra, it kind of changed overnight. The entire system switched to English and no other language from the drop down menu could be added.
Now I installed High Sierra again, erased the entire hard disk. It is working properly again.

Try a safe boot:
Use safe mode to isolate issues with your Mac - Apple Support
Also you can set up a new user account and see if you have the same problem when logged into that.

What MacOS version did you have before updating?
What items are currently on the list in system prefs/language & region/preferred languages?
