I recently upgraded my iphone and now it won't sync with itunes. It says I need to upgrade my macbook air. but macbook air says there are no updates. I currently have osx yosemite. does anyone know how i can upgrade so my iphone will sync again?

You need to have at least OS X El Capitan to use a version of iTunes 12.8 which can communicate to iOS 12.
If you stay on Yosemite, you will be unable to communicate to your iPhone.
