EndNotes & Pages

Hi,

I use the recent trail of EndNote with Pages 7.2. I installed the most recent Plug in for it, too.

Mostly citations work, also the Bibliography.

Unfortunately I can't add two citation together in a bracket, because it automatically brings a bracket up with one citation and the next citation with another bracket. The cursor doesn't jumpt into the bracket. This is crucial.

Has anyone a idea?

Thank you.

Anne

Any exposure as a student to Office 2019 for Mac yet? Word is 36 years of accumlated user requirements, and it needs a good rewrite for better usability. Still, if you get backed into a corner with a problem, someone on the web, or in a book, has figured out a solution, or workaround for Word. In comparison, Pages is an island outside of normal shipping lanes. Easy to get marooned.

The Pages EndNote Plug-in v3.1 was designed for use with EndNote X8 8.x, and has not been explicitly updated by Apple for use with X9. As a fellow user, I have no information on Apple's future plans for this plug-in, or any collaboration with Clarify.

Whether this plug-in will work entirely as planned, or even support all of the functionality available within EndNote X9 is presently uncharted waters. Adding to the complication, Pages v7.2 reflects over two years of extensive updates since this plug-in was initially released for Pages v6.2. The multitude of Security updates and patches in High Sierra may contribute additional compatibility unknowns.

It is a prerequisite that EndNote is running prior to launching Pages. If that is already redundant, then your best course of action is to use EndNote X8 8.2, and revisit your particular posting issue to see if it is resolved. You would likely see better product support for EndNote X9 if you were using Word 2016 for Mac or Windows.

Thank you for your answer VikingOSX.

I know, that the program works better with Word, but I don‘t like working with Word.

Unfortunately I can’t get the EndNote x8 version for a student discount.

I discovered a way around the problem. I edited the output style and deleted the brackets in the citation template. At least that leaves the brackets away. I have to set them on my own. It is not perfect, but it works.

Nevertheless I am still uncertain if I should buy EverNote at all. Who knows whatever problem further occurs. If I have to work with Word anyway I could consider using a free bibliography version like Zotero.

I will try a bit more and decide afterward.
