Spell check in Mojave

This is more of a pet peeve, because I am a writer, but the spellcheck in Mojave is terrible. I have the word "seek" in a sentence, and the spell check flags it as if it's the word "eek." It has also flagged "than" where "then" would not be appropriate. This never happened before I updated to Mojave. I don't like computers scolding me for word choice (which shouldn't even be included in spellcheck - that's a grammar issue), but I do like to be able to check my spelling without these glitches. I can't think of any fixes, other than telling it to learn spellings of words that do not exist... which would defeat the purpose of spellcheck.

Have the spell check, whether in System Preferences : Keyboard : Text panel, or in the application that you are using — set to your explicit country language, and not Automatic by Language. The latter introduces some wag to the spell checking equation.
