Spell check in Mojave

This is more of a pet peeve, because I am a writer, but the spellcheck in Mojave is terrible. I have the word "seek" in a sentence, and the spell check flags it as if it's the word "eek." It has also flagged "than" where "then" would not be appropriate. This never happened before I updated to Mojave. I don't like computers scolding me for word choice (which shouldn't even be included in spellcheck - that's a grammar issue), but I do like to be able to check my spelling without these glitches. I can't think of any fixes, other than telling it to learn spellings of words that do not exist... which would defeat the purpose of spellcheck.

I'm seeing the same thing, as are other people. Spell check is flagging words like "there," suggesting maybe it should be "their" or "they're" when in fact "there" is correct, or flagging "were" and suggesting "we're" instead when "were" is correct. Spell check also flags words like "by" and "off" and a host of other strange things. Driving me nuts, it's so distracting. I'm going to have to turn check spelling as you type off.
