"Ringtone cant be played on this iPhone"
Why? its an m4r file. its the right length (less than 30 seconds). In the past, I've never had problems, why now?
iPhone 8, iOS 12

See Create and manage ringtones in iTunes. In some cases you may need to remove all custom ringtones from a device before you can reintroduce them and have them work.

You can try installing other ringtones and then try. By the way what error it is showing.
You can read this thread as well.

A few different points...
- its a new phone. I transferred everything (ringtones) from my last phone fine.
- I added one new ringtone (my own)
- unable to add a second ringtone (my own)
- On iTunes, all the transferred ringtones are greyed out, with the hashed circle. But still work fine on the iPhone
- The first added ringtone, is black and looks normal. Even transferred to the iPhone fine
- Second ringtone is greyed, and i get the message that it cant be played on this iPhone when I try to synch
Makes no sense to me. One works, the other doesnt. All, except one, are greyed out on iTunes..
Does the second ringtone have a unique file path & file name?
Exactly what steps did you take to make the second ringtone? Did it start life as a .m4a AAC file which you renamed with a .m4r file extension?

Going off of what is happening, thats probably the last thing I want to do. Once I delete them, I wont be able to get them back. Sure wont be able to put them into my phone. I'm willing to bet there is no problem buying a tone.
I've tried installing a couple different tones, nothing works. (these are custom tones I've made)

yes. I recorder the audio on the computer; Imported into iTunes; converted it to AAC; Changed it to m4r. i put it into the Tone folder (where it stays grey).
I can't say for certain, but I'd still be tempted to strip out all of the custom tones and then start over.

How do I strip them out? If I have to do it through iTunes, I don't think it can be done. They are all greyed out, so I select them to delete.
(Thank you for the help)
