Unable to add "la niña" or "el niño" in keyboard shortcuts on iPhone?

Hello

This is annoying. Why cannot we add this string as a keyboard shortcut in iPhone so the auto corrector doesn't change it every freaking time to capitalized "La Niña" or "El Niño" versions?

I know these are climatic phenomenons, but their names come from SIMPLE spanish sentences that you type almost every day. It is VERY ANNOYING that every time I type la niña when I speak about my daughter the iPhone changes it to La Niña. And when you try to add these 2 into keyboard shortcuts so the autocorrector understands that it has to respect the typing they simply don't show up when you press OK. iOS simply doesn't accept them.

What kind of thing is this?

iPhone 7 Plus, iOS 12

David,

I just tried this (on a 6S with iOS 12.0.1) and my experience is exactly the same as yours. I tried adding Español (Latinoamérica) as a second language in Settings > General > Language & Region. No change. I tried training the system to accept "la niña" by repeatedly typing it in the Notes app and overriding the suggestions of predictive typing. Nada. As a last result, I tried the usually bulletproof technique of adding "la niña" as a Contact. The system will not stop with the La Niña. It's kind of insane.
