mac pro mid 2010 and 4 external GPUs

Hi - i want to upgrade my mac pro mid 2010 - but the last try with high sierra ended with a return to my old el capitan. i need a system wich can handle my 4 external gtx titan cards to use cuda for rendering. with el capitan i run 4 external gpus with no problem. I have them in a netsor NA 255 A (http://www.netstor.com.tw/product_info.aspx?PID=PID_170324287237937) and they working very well for 3 years now.

But now some programms and plugins need a newer system.

Did some one tested the new mojave with the same hardware config?

Or do you have a hint for me - maybe a solution for the high sierra system?

my last try with High sierra only two external cards where shown. and it was very lacky.

I hope to get a solution - otherwise i think my 26 years on a apple will ended this year and i must go the PC side.

Mac Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.6), GTX Titan

Hi cbm27! Mojave is definitely out for CUDA rendering, as the web drivers for Nvidia cards aren't out yet and probably won't be for the next 3-4 months, so I think High Sierra is your best bet. Can you describe your issue a little more in-depth when using High Sierra? Did you have the web drivers installed? (If not they can be found here).

Hope it helps!

i found this on a nvidia side

Apple's recently released macOS 10.14 (Mojave) does not support CUDA. For CUDA developers who are on macOS 10.13, it is recommended to not upgrade to Mojave. Developers may not be able to use Xcode 10 to build GPU applications or run CUDA applications. Both macOS 10.13.6 and Xcode 9.4 support CUDA and work great with CUDA 10. NVIDIA is working with Apple to get Mojave to support CUDA.

Hi Geotrax - wow that was a fast answer. ok - so my hope was the mojave system and you made it explode ;-)

i tried the high Sierra update i think in May or June this year. It runs ok with only the internal GTX titan 12gb. no laggy windows - it runs like it must i think. But when i connect the external Netstor with the 4 GTX titans it started to lag a bit and i could only see 2 of the 4 cards. they are connected over a PCI card. in el capitan it all runs perfect.

in Yosemite i had the same problem - the GPU limitation of 2 Cards. but then it comes el capitan and all works fine.

With high sierra i googled a lot and only found solution with thunderbold mac - but the mid 2010 didnt have thunderbold. i hope some private developer made some terminal scripts for kext to unlock the external cards. but i didnt found it yet.
