Can't reset iphone and no password

I'm trying to factory reset an older SE phone because I don't know the password. It's never been synched to my current computer. I opened itunes, and did the power/home button combo. I did not get the "there is a problem...." screen as described in the support article. Just stopped with the phone showing the cable pointing towards the itunes circle; and nothing else on the computer.

Thanks for asking the Apple Support Communities for help with restoring your iPhone to factory settings. Since you are planning on erasing the device, and are now at the connect to iTunes screen, I recommend the procedure listed in this help article:

If you can't update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

Using these steps, you will enter recovery mode and can choose the option to "Restore" the device when you get the screen with the options "Restore" or "Update". Thanks and have a wonderful day.
