How to update Photos on the Mac?

Usually it gets done over Wifi, but I haven't been able to update the Photo stream on the Mac, over Wifi or even manually connecting the phone to MacBook Air. I am running High Sierra on the Mac and iOS12.0.1 on the phone.

Is there anything I'm missing? The Photo stream on the Mac has not been updating since August although on iCloud, everything is perfectly in sync.

Thank you.

MacBook Air, null

The problem is, the iPhone user guide for iOS 12 says "My Photo Stream is automatically turned off if you use iCloud Photos." So it will probably not upload to My Photo Stream, even if you turn it on again, as long as you are using iCloud Photos on the iPhone. You could simply try use iCloud Photos on your Mac as well. Since all photos did upload to iCloud, you could create a new, empty Photos Library and enable it for iCloud. The Photos from iCloud will download to your Mac, without uploading all photos from your Mac library to iCloud. Then you can export all photos from the new library with "File > Export > Export unmodified Original" and save them to your main Photos Library.

Has iCloud Photo Library (iCloud Photos) become enabled on your iPhone? That will automatically disable My Photo Stream. You may want to check the Settings > Your Name > iCloud on your iPhone, also check, if My Photo Stream is still enabled in the System Prefrences > iCloud > Photos and in the Photos > preferences > iCloud.

So iCloud Photos is enabled on my phone. The 'Upload to Photo Stream' switch has also been enabled. I haven't changed any settings from before and all the photos taken on the phone, would be uploaded to iCloud and could be seen on my Macbook Photos app as well.

Now they are only updating on iCloud and I definitely don't want to stop that.
