I have final cut and I completed an audio project for a client. They requested MP3 (which I know how to compress) and a-law or mu-law wav (8 bit, 8kHz G.711). How to compress my project to a-law and mu-law wav files? I don't even know what the file format is used for, Please help
You can Export/Using QuickTime Compression and select From Movie to QuickTime Movie: then you may open the Sound Settings of the Option panel and choose either A-law or mu-law (in addition to the usual PCM linear, without compression).
alaw and ulaw are commonly used in telephony systems, such as VoIP. For example we record voice messages - such as welcomes, prompts or instructional and progress - in natively support format for Asterisk in alaw.
You are right: it seems QTime and FCE do not provide logaritmic compression (a/mu-law) in the .wav format (while a/mu-law compression is available in the .mov format, as I wrote before).
So, I'm sorry, but I guess I don't have an answer....
As WAV is the raw format for Windows, you may want to use a Windows program. Windows freeware title called ffmpegGUI will probably let you do the conversion. You can run it with Virtual PC.
