iPhone Backup failing

Team,

I just got my iphone XsMax but before i turn it up, i wanted to back up my iphone 6sPlus. I tried wifi and it keeps failing so i decided to do using a cable directly to the MAC. I get the below error.

Hi garfieldvk! I don't know which Mac you have, or which OS you are running on it. But make sure, if possible, that you're using the latest version of iTunes, currently 12.9. Then re-boot both your iPhone 6s and your Mac, then re-connect your phone to your Mac and open iTunes again. If this doesn't help try a different USB cable (they sometimes go wonky on you!). And maybe boot your Mac into Safe Mode and see if things work there.

macOS Sierra: Start up in safe mode

Otherwise have a look at this article from Apple, it might help you:

Hope some of this helps you! Regards, Ian.

Regarding "space", you might want to monitor the size of the iTune backup's occasionally, I've seen mine grow to 900Mb when the normal size is around 250Mb (I'm a light user), but that's still 3x the usual and I backup two devices, for heavy users I can image backup's could run into the Gb region and therefore take up a lot of disk space if they get out of hand.

I periodically go to ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup and delete the contents prior to doing a new backup, that way if they are "growing" for no reason you at least keep it under control.
