iPhone Xs audio distortion / robotic effect

Hi all

I've had 2 different iPhone Xs 256GB models that exhibit the same problem. Audio tinniness when playing podcasts or newcasts (spoken word content). It's a little hard to explain in text, but when listening to a podcasts, if any of the narrators have deeper voices (usually male), the top speaker seems to have difficulty reproducing their voice and the overall effect can make their spoken words sound slightly robotic or tinny.

The Max doesn't appear to have this problem, only the smaller phone. I returned my first Xs and the 2nd one is slightly better, but still has the issue. Anyone else hearing this?

This podcast is a good test clip, as Conan's voice is fairly deep and exhibits the robotic distortion on my Xs speakers. When listening to it via Airpods it sounds normal.
