Audio works but no video

That was it. Secondary USB-lighting cable must supply power to the Apple AV Adapter. I had the same problem on my iPhone XS and daughters iPhone 7 and could not get the Apple AV adapter to work with any of the suggestions above with the exception to this last one. I plugged in the secondary USB-lighting cable to a standard wall adapter and life is good. No need to connect the USB cable to the TV. My only guess is that previously the AV adapter was able to grab power from the phone directly over the primary lighting connector, but not any more on IOS 12

Same problem with XR. Very frustrating. iPad Pro 10.5 works it isn’t any of my cables or my adapter. Fix it apple. I have a 50$ paper weight.
My iPad mini 3 (12.1.4) won’t mirror using my lightning digital av connector. When I go to settings->display and brightness, I don’t even see the items listed in the suggestions above...???
I have the same problems while using a Lightening>HDMI cable clone. Are you using the Apple HDMI adapter? Does it work? I was thinking of getting one to avoid the 3rd party software upgrade issues I can't resolve. I try to turn on mirroring but only see an Apple TV option I can't delete. I can't find any documentation to cover this new ios "feature" and no help from YouTube coaches.
I had all of the problems described in this thread while using a third-party cable clone. I finally went to an Apple Store and bought a new Apple adapter. It has worked flawlessly. Apple has made this a smart adapter that can adjust to new iOS releases to remain compatible, leaving the hard-wired clones behind. It is well worth the price.?
I had the same problem. The adapter charged fine but the hdmi wouldn’t work to my tv. I plugged both the hdmi and usb cable to the adapter and connected both to tv together and it worked. No clue why.
I was using a projector with my iPad through an HDMI adapter. Since I updated to iOS 12 it no longer works. I’ve seen some say that the problem can be resolved by changing the display setting to zoomed on iPhone. That feature is not present on iPad. Please fix this issue. Removing compatibility is really frustrating.
so yes this worked IPhone 7 Plus running iOS 12.2 it wasn’t working an hour ago.
I came to this thread. I changed my display view like suggested and it now works.
Note: it doesn’t matter if it’s on zoomed or standard. Just change it—and remember to hit the word SET on the top right corner after making the switch.
CHECK your adapter now.
It should work.
And you can even switch back to standard or zoomed again and it will still work.
Somehow it just requires you to make that one change and then you can change it back.
I updated my devices to the new 12.1 it’s working just fine with the AV adapter. You might need to power cycle you device after the update.
Suggestion: Buy a new one from Apple, return it if it doesn’t work. Could be they upgraded it without telling anybody.
