activation lock apple id not working

please can someone help me, I've had my ipad mini for years and on a recent holiday to Egypt got a message saying my ipad had updated and just needed me to activate my ipad. This took me through to my apple ID and password, which I entered and got the message that this ID could not unlock this device. I checked my log on be going onto iTunes and icloud, entered the same ID and password and they worked. In the icloud I clicked on find my phone and my ipad is no longer found. I cant even get into the settings on my ipad mini as cant get passed the activation page. What has happened, I have tried to force a restore, update etc using my iTunes account, I have done both a restore and an update but both take me to the same activate lock page asking for my iTunes account and password.. which time and time again I have entered and it tells me that this account can not unlock this device.

Please can someone help

I see that your iPad is on the activation lock screen after your iPad needed to be activated again. I'm happy to help.


Turn off Find My iPhone Activation Lock

If you see the Activation Lock screen, the device is still linked to the previous owner's account.

Ask the previous owner for help

If the device is linked to a previous owner's account and they're close by, ask them to enter their Apple ID and password on the Activation Lock screen and remove the device from their account.

If you see the passcode screen and the device isn't erased, ask the previous owner to unlock the device and go to Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings. They'll need to enter their Apple ID and password.

If you forgot your Apple ID -- If you recognize the Apple ID as one that you've used in the past, review the information and apply the steps provided in this article to recover that ID. If you're able to recover it, you can use the steps in the previous article to remove the activation lock.

Hi Alex many thanks for your reply but this is why I am so confused..it's my iPad that I have owned from new, it's my correct Apple ID and password that I use on every other device. One day my iPad worked fine and the next day it's locked and my ID and password don't work to unlock. I am at a complete loss what to do as I have tried both of the above options and can't get into my iPad, which as I say I owned from new for years and never had a problem until now
