SACD problem - Macbook superdrive is unable to read HYBRID SACD

Hi,

Problem: my MacBook doesn't read HYBRID SACD-s - after spending a minute with trying to analyze the CD, it spits the CD out.

I've checked and other regular CD/DVD readers (both in laptops, desktops and regular audio CD players) are able to read and play the given hybrid SACD. On the other hand, I only experience this problem with hybrid SACDs, my MacBook does read regular audio CDs, CD-Rs, DVDs etc. I haven't tried DVD-A yet.

I have: MacBook2,1 purchased in January, 2007. 2Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2GB RAM, white. Optical drive: HL-DT-ST DVDRW GWA4080MB disk drive (firmware revision: BE38).

Does anyone else experience this problem? I've tried to follow some of the suggestions which appeared in some of the related (but not identical) threads, but none of them worked. For instance, SMC reboot doesn't help. Apple doesn't seem to have anything related in its database either.

Thanks for any help.

Thanks again.

Actually I brought back my MacBook to Apple - they checked it, recognized that it's indeed not a software problem, and replaced the drive without any further questions. My new drive is also a MATSHITADRD, and it reads the SACD.

I would be still curious whether the problem I had was generic or just an issue with my specific drive. So if anyone out there happens to own both a HL-DT-ST DVD-drive, and, say, Alia Vox's J.S.Bach: Die Kunst der Fuge (Hesperion XX, Jordi Savall, SACD), please confirm whether your drive can play it. Thanks.
