iRig 2 not recognized by MacBook air

I have a 2015 MacBook air and I have tried to plug in the iRig 2 but it only recognizes it as a headphone port, so no sound comes out of the laptop. Is this because the MacBook air has a single input/output jack? Do I have to return the irig?
