Shortcut to open text color window not working

macOS 10.14

Pages 7.2

The keyboard shortcut shift+cmd+c opens the text color window but if you highlight some text in a document and then try to alter its color via this window, nothing happens. The text remains its original color.

You can change text color via this window if, instead of using the shortcut to open the window, you open the window via the sidebar (in “Style”, click on the multi-colored disk).

I never had this problem in Pages v4.3.

Hi eipi,

This appears to be one of the more than 100 features of Pages '09 (Pages 4.x) that did not make it into the full rewrite that produced Pages 5 and its successors.

Some of those features have returned. This apparently is not ne of them.

Shift-command-C will open the Color panel, but simply choosing a colour in the panel won't apply that colour to selected text. To apply the colour, you need to have the Format Inspector open and the Text section selected. Dragging a colour from the larger square near the bottom of the color panel to the color well in the Inspector will then apply that colour to the selected text.

Barry

Well, bug might be a bit hasty. I believe the keystroke launched color picker is strictly for object color fill, and not for text coloration.

In fact, if I have a shape, text box, or table cell selected, and keystroke launch the color picker, I can repetitively drag/drop different swatch colors into these document objects and they will fill with the selected color. Simply clicking the swatch color will not effect these document objects. The color picker has no effect on selected text, as we know.

When one clicks the globe color picker that is part of the Cocoa color well in the side bar, it will only change text color and has no effect on the document objects from the second paragraph. It is in the Font section after all.

I eipi,

"In general it would be great if…" usually isn't within the range of topics handled in this user-to-user discussion space. As users, we can share information regarding using the software or hardware as it currently exists, but aren't in a position to change the software or hardware into what 'it should be.'

To request changes in the software, you need to talk directly to Apple (who provide this space, but do not participate in the discussions or monitor them closely beyond checking to ensure the users are following the terms of use agreement.

All current Apple software includes a Provide … Feedback link to the specific feedback channel for that application.

You'll find the link in the Pages menu in Pages (and in the Numbers menu in Numbers). Use it to make a feature enhancement request to Apple.

Hi Barry,

Thanks for the reply. Hopefully this gets fixed in the future as I really don't like having to open the sidebar.

In general, it would be great if there were more customization options to allow us to make the current version of Pages more like version 4.3, which I really loved... For example, I would love to be able to see Font type and size without having the sidebar open. I don't know, the sidebar takes up valuable room and hence is not good.
