Double Click Turns off iPhoneX Instead of Paying

iPhone X now Running iOS 12.0.1 (but issue has always been present for the year I've had the phone)

The touch pay function on my new iPhone X is totally cool, and more and more merchants are supporting it. However, one issue: about a 1/3 of the time when I double click to tell the phone to activate facial recognition as the final step in approving the payment, the phone turns off rather than activating facial recognition. How may I fix this? Thank you!!!

If you want to fix something like this, then restart your iPhone, maybe it’s just caught in a bug 2. Hard reset your iPhone, this won’t remove your data, it’ll just clear cache and fresh start your iPhone. 3. Just reset it, Resetting it might fix it.

Thanks much for taking the time to weigh in!!!

Have done the restart to no avail. My guess (but it's just a guess) is that it has to do with difficulty pushing the button twice quickly cuz it's in an Otterbox case. Short of taking the case off and losing the protection, is there a way to work around this? Is there a way to use some other method of activating facial recognition that would be more reliable?
