Need assistance with difficult wages functions

Hey all,

Need some help here, I'll try to explain as best as I can. I make a certain amount of money per hour after a certain time and that increases throughout my night shift. I'm trying to create an easy functional table that can just spit out everything. Here it is:

I make X an hour.

After 8:00pm, I make an extra 10% of X per hour.

After 1:00am, I make an extra 20% of X per hour.
I make time and a half of X after 8 hours.

Trying to figure this out here, any help wit function abilities would be great.

Thanks!

Hi Makdaddi0,

Here is an idea to get started, but I don't think it answers your question.

Imaginary Hourly Rate to make it easier to follow the calculations.

User uploaded file

Date (in column A) plays no part in the formulas.

Enter Start (column B) and Finish (column C) as Text. Either format B and C as Text, or enter times with a preceding apostrophe (') to force Pages to treat the entry as Text (a Time without a Date).

Some questions:

Do you always start on one day and finish after midnight on the next day?

If you take a meal break,

do you "lose" X per hour before 8:00 pm?

Do you "lose" that extra 10% of X per hour after 8:00 pm?

Do you "lose" that extra 20% of X per hour after 1:00 am?

Do you "lose" the time and a half part of your 8 hour shift?

See this reply by SGIII in the Numbers for Mac forum:

calculation duration without date

Perhaps SG will call in to help.

Regards,

Ian.

Thanks so much! That's a great starting point and one that didn't even cross my mind.

Yes, if I take my lunch say at 9:30, I lose that extra 10% per hour. More often than not I am taking my lunch from 9:00-9:30. Theoretically if I take a longer lunch, an hour, it pushes me into 30 more mins into my extra 20% an hour.

To answer your first question, yes, most normally my shift is 5:00pm - 1:30am with a 30 min lunch. About once a week I go into OT as late as 4:40am.
