wifi calling
I want to buy iPhone Xs in full. AT&T is telling me if I purchase iPhone from Apple, I won't be able to use wifi calling or personal hotspot, that these features are specific to iPhones purchased through AT&T.
Is this true?

Not true. Those are features specific to your cellular service plan and will work with AT&T with any compatible device. The iPhone Xs you purchase from AT&T is identical to the one you purchase from Apple. The devices have identical hardware and firmware.
