iPhone Xs vs. Xs Max - Speakers

Apple is touting the Xs and Xs Max as having the best speakers ever in an iPhone. Louder, better range, clarity, etc.

As far as I can tell, everything I have read points to the Xs and Xs Max having the same exact speakers. But I noticed that the Xs Max has more holes drilled into the outer stainless steel band for the speaker and mic. Are the speakers in both phones in fact the same? If so, will the Xs Max still produce a louder, overall better sound due to it physically being larger (the dynamics of sound in a larger phone chassis, etc)?

I seem to remember that my iPhone 6 Plus did sound louder and a bit better than the smaller iPhone 6 did at the time.

It's literally gone worse. It's the new speaker gate. I've tried more than 10 iPhone Xs/Max. The front facing speakers all make crackling noise at high volume, during phone calls, music, video. This issue was confirmed by multiple apple store staffs yet there's no solution at all. This is a hardware issue so Apple is trying its best dodging it so that it doesn't have to issue a full scale recall.
