How to add a filled text box

I’m probably over complicating this but I can’t figure it out. I have a video where I want to add a white box with text to blank out the licence plate on a car. I will need to move the corners of the box to adapt to the plate moving on the video. is this possible in FCP or should I do it in motion (which then leads to the question of how do I do it in motion).

several ways lead to Rome…

Simple/manual:

create the 'plaster' in some paint.app, adjust the PNGs size and position in FCPX with the Transform Tool/Distort, set a few keyframes to follow the real-life action.

(oh, and for just blurring numberplates, consider FCPX' build-in Censor effect…)

Motion5/automatic

follow advice given by the RippleTwins:

3rd party tracking tools/$$$
