I’m having the same issue with my iPhone X. I‘ve reset the settings, reset the phone, reset iTunes, basically reset everything. Still, when I go to set an alarm using a song I’ve paid for the alarm “radar” sound plays even though the song is showing in the alarm set up. Is there anything that can be done? This issue seems to have begun after the latest updates.

I found the issue! If the song has not been downloaded to your phone it will not play. I had to check for download on each song I had set for alarm. Once I downloaded the songs it plays them again in alarm mode.

Oops. I take that back. I THOUGHT song was downloaded but this is a new phone and song was still on the cloud, although the sample played for the alarm. Go figure. I frankly don’t like my music on the cloud. I want to “own it/hold it”.
Hope that solves the alarm problem. Much better waking to music, I think.
THIS HELPED! so for anyone who’s still having the problem, check the song or ringtone you picked, if it has the iCloud symbol next to it, click it so that it’s downloaded to your phone, AND THEN the song will play. You’re a genius!
My songs are downloaded and none work on the alarm. Very aggravating.
Update...I’m still having this issue! No word from Apple on any suggestions for a remedy. This experience has got me thinking about Android!
Having exactly same problem. No sound for alarm, I’m late for work!
My problem was related to the standard alarm shipped with iPhone XS Max.

why will it not play
Ok so downloaded song from cloud and works as alarm, but is super loud and scared the crup out of me this morning. HOW does one set one volume for alarm and another for phone ring. Cannot do it even when “set with buttons” is on. Thanks.
