No landscape mode in settings or contacts

My Iphone XS Max is unlocked for landscape view and will not go to landscape in settings or contacts. Landscape does occur in Safari and mail but no split screen. Any solutions?

Thanks.

Landscape mode is not available on the iPhone X, XS, or XS Max. The feature was removed and the iPhone 8 Plus was the last iPhone to support it. At this point, landscape mode will only work in apps that support it.

The iPhone XS Max Home Screen Doesn't Rotate In Landscape Mode

Sorry, that is incorrect. I have an Xs Max in front of me and it shows many things in landscape mode, including Contacts and Settings which the OP asked about.

bjrocdoc, if you do not have rotation lock enabled (see Control Center) there are a few other things which may disable landscape view.

  • Under Settings/ Display & Brightness/ Display Zoom, do you have Zoom enabled? That will disable landscape view, so turn it back to Standard view and the device will reset, and you should then have landscape view.
  • Under Settings/ General/ Accessibility do you have any features enabled? I think some of these (I don't recall which, maybe Zoom?) prevent landscape view.

If you can't find any setting that impacts this, try resetting or even restoring your iPhone Xs Max, it certainly will support landscape view in many ways (but not the Home screen, unfortunately).

I know it has been removed from home page and only available in specific areas. There are several demonstrations on You Tube with Iphone XS Max showing when in Settings and in Mail that the phone is sideways with a landscape view revealing a split screen, i.e. in Settings the menu is on the left and the item selected open on the right, or in Mail the emails on the left and the specific email opened on the right. I cannot replicate that on my phone.
