iPhone Xs headphones not working

The headphones that came with my brand new iPhone Xs stopped working properly today. They are cutting in and out; they will suddenly stop playing through the headphones and begin blaring out of my phone itself. I have been having issues with charging as well, but not sure if this is related.

iPhone XS Max, iOS 12.0.1
