iCloud for storage and syncing
I use iCloud Drive for syncing data between my iMac and my MacBook. I'd also like to use it to store some files that I only want available on my iMac. Is there a way to do this?

No, sorry, but iCloud is a syncing/sharing service, so if you have iCloud Drive turned on for both Macs, then they share the contents of iCloud Drive in full.
If you want them only on one Mac, then store them locally in a folder.

Correct. iCloud is a syncing/sharing service. That is its purpose in life. To sync and share.
If you want offsite storage, you might want to look into Dropbox or Google Drive or something along those lines, which are designed to do both.

That's exactly what I did. I'm using iCloud to sync between iMac and MacBook and Google Drive to sync/store only for my iMac.
The files are currently stored locally in a folder on my Mac. What I want to do is get them off my Mac and store them in the cloud, but I don't want them to sync to anything ... I just want to store them. I'm guessing that iCloud is not a storage service ... it's only a syncing service.
Perfect 🙂!
