iTunes is not recognizing my iPod after upgrading to iOS 12

I'm ready to SCREAM!

iTunes is not recognizing my iPod Touch after upgrading my iPod to iOS 12. I'm using a MacBook Pro 17'' early 2011, OS High Sierra 10.13.6, iTunes 12.8.0.150, iPod Touch 6th Gen/128 GB iOS 12.0.1. Prior, my Mac was still running Sierra, my iPod was running iOS 11, and everything worked great. I then upgraded the iPod first to iOS 12 and iTunes iOS 11 didn't recognize my iPod. I then upgraded my Mac to High Sierra 10.13.6 (latest I can go, Mac won't support Mojave) and iTunes 12.8.0.150 still won't recognize my iPod.

I have read some of the posts here...I tried looking in “system info” under USB and it shows that my iPod IS Hooked up there so I know the USB cable is good. Even when I have iTunes open and then plug in my iPod, my computer make a Bell ding sound like it is "trying" to recognize my iPod, but nothing ever shows up (no little iPod icon, and none of my playlists or songs). I also did the “wait” thing for like 10 minutes 3 different times and my iPod still does not show up in iTunes! Any help/ideas would be great!

iPod touch, iOS 12.0.1

Hey 929intime2ryme,

It sounds like your MacBook Pro is having some difficulty with iTunes recognizing your iPod touch. I'll be happy to help out.

It sounds like you've already followed the steps in this resource: If iTunes doesn't recognize your iPhone, iPad, or iPod - Apple Support

Since you do see the iPod listed under USB in the System Information, the issue may be with third-party software. The best way to determine this for sure is to create a test user account: How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac

If you're able to get iTunes to detect the iPod in the test user account, the issue will be with third-party software or settings in your other account.

Keep us updated on your findings. Cheers!

Hi Carlos,

Thank you for the suggestions. Last night I spent over 2 hours on the phone with an Apple Senior Advisor. She had me try troubleshooting about 8 different things, including logging in as a test user and re downloading the most up to date versions of everything my computer will support from the .dmg site. Tried it twice from a test user and iTunes still will not recognize my iPod Touch....although it dings when I plug it into the USB and shows that it is charging. I have read so many other posts under the iPod section and iTunes sections about many other folks having this same issue after updating their iPods/iPhones to iOS 12 who are on older Macs (even though the specs say they should work). The Senior Advisor walked be through so many things my head was spinning in addition to copying logs off of my iPod and had me send them to Apple. My case is now with Apple Engineering. It's now been 24 hours and my advisor said she has not heard back from Engineering. I now have another phone call follow-up scheduled for Saturday night (3 days from now). They better figure this out or I will have to try and revert back to an older version of something on my iPod, iTunes, Mac OS....who fricken knows...I have NO idea how to go back to an older version of anything. I try to stay out of Apple Stores, but is this problem something dem in store Genius types 😝 could fix or am I better off sticking with the phone support route with Engineering?

I hope that others with this same problem will get a case open so Apple will get going on a fix. Can you HEAR US APPLE ! 😠 😢 😠
