A white oval showed up beside the control center

Hi

ever since I updated to iOS 12 and 12.0.1 to my ipad mini, a white oval shows up beside the control center area on the top right portion of the screen as you see below. When it was newly updated, it was not there but after i did a hard reset, it shows up and won’t go away anymore. This only ahows on the lock acreen. I changed wallpapers to no avail.

anybody know what is happening?

It seems there is a bug in iOS 12 that causes this cosmetic defect.

You might want to report the issue through Apple's formal feedback path:

https://www.apple.com/feedback/

They won't reply, but they will read and consider it, and if enough users report that it annoys them, then Apple may fix it in a future release.

Do you by any chance have a cellular-capable model that's missing a working SIM? I've seen reports of that oval appearing where the signal strength indicator would appear.

No sim. But it never behaved like that until ios 12

That’s only half of the picture. Does it have a functioning SIM card, or does it have a missing or invalid SIM card?

What are you calling a hard reset? Do you mean a forced restart? If you didn’t do this, try it. Also try unlocking the screen orientation, then do the forced restart.

To force restart your device, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for at least ten seconds, until you see the Apple logo.
