Do iMacs have sound cards?

I tried searching for info, but the word "Sound" is pretty generic.

I want the ability to listen to music on an iMac, in addition to doing my graphics work.

I don't see much of a product description of the iMacs... at least not one that tells me if I can do this without buying extra stuff.

Help?!

Now I'm even more confused.

I hope to buy the 24" Intel iMac later this year.

Will I be able to hook up external speakers directly?

Or do I need to buy some external soundcard?

Well what did you want to know? its pretty obvious it doesent come with a soundcard.

FYI

Every single Mac ever has had a 'sound card'. Their specs do vary and of course nowadays are much more capable.
