Distnoted using so much memory

My 15" macbook pro running high sierra occasionally starts running super slow. Recently I checked activity monitor and saw that distnoted is using a ton of memory. I have 16GB physical memory. And for the distnoted memory, it showed 40 GB.

Restarting resolved the issue, but I think this will just keep happening over and over again like it always has. Its usually triggered by having several applications open plus Parallels. And usually even if I close the powerful applications down, the computer remains slow.

"Distnoted isn’t too critical. Instead, use Activity Monitor to see what apps are running — not just system processes. Quit one app at a time and see if the distnoted activity dies down as well."

Totally annoying site. I've copied the interesting part, so you don't have to go to the site.
