Photos won't import live or airdrop photos

Computer is MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Mid 2014) with macOS High Sierra 10.13.6

Photos is Version 3.0

iPhone SE iOS 12.0.1

I can import regular photos and video clips no problem, but the live photos won't import (and haven't for months) and anything air dropped to me from family or friends doesn't get imported either. I can see them on my iPhone, but they won't import. I have not been using iCloud Photo Library as I have just been manually syncing my iPhone with my computer.

Is this the same drive you are using for Time Machine backups? Then Photos will have permission problems and file ownership problems (this started with High Sierra) and may not be able to find the video components of Live Photos or the resource forks of videos. The same problem may occur, idc the drive has a filesystem format that is case-sensitive.

A Photos Library can only be on a drive that is prepared like described here: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201517

Have you checked in the Settings on your iPhone, if iCloud Photos is still disabled on the iPhone in Settings > Your Name > iCloud > Photos? It ma yhave become enabled during a software update, without you noticing it.

Where is your Photos Library on the Mac stored? Is it on the system drive or on an external drive?
