any advice on what version of photoshop to use with el capitan

I was Snow Leapard upgraded to El Capitan my old version of photoshop CS2 does not work, any suggestions what is the oldest version that is combatible with El Capitan

In order to get older Adobe apps to open in El Capitan you need to download and then install this, Download Java for OS X 2017-001

As CS2 is very old this may not work, so I would recommend either CS5 or even better CS6 if you can find them,

CS6 is the last version of Adobe CS before they went to their subscription model.

If it helps, I'm running El Capitan but only have the cutdown version of Photoshop - Photoshop Elements 6.0 which was released a decade ago. I originally used it on my PowerPC G4 iMac running Leopard until I bought my current 2015 iMac with El Cap. Elements 6.0 works fine on both. Apparently the corresponding full Photoshop version is CS3.
