I started having the same problem with my iPhone 7 yesterday it's been updated to 12.0.1 and now I get the error that no audio device from the phone. I can't make or receive phone calls as they can't hear me and I can't hear them. I'm being told from apple the only option is to pay for a replacement where we don't have apple care. We own 4 iPhone 7's and all but 1 has had major issues. One of them is completely unusable.

ALL THIS!!!

Following problems after updating with iOS 12.1.2 for Iphone 7 :

-Can’t hear anything nor can anyone hear me when calling

-can’t send Whatsapp voicenote

-can't record Voicememo

-Selfie and outward mic doesn’t work when making a video

- Iphone is super slow/glitches

-Cant even allow me to use speaker option while calling

Yet speaker works when listening to music and voicenotes

This has nothing to do with me but with the new update!

They need to fix this!!!!

I too am having this exact same problem. Not being able to hear people when making calls, nor can they hear me. The speaker icon is greyed out. I can hear music coming from my speakers, but phone is not working.

I have tried doing the reset all settings (The one that doesn't clear all data and media).

I am currently about to result to restoring my iphone to factory defaults. However, I have a lot of information on my phone and don't do a great job about backing it up.

The problem recently ocurred after i accidentally installed the new IOS 12.1.2 update. I had to spend all day with my phone not working properly, replying in a text back to people calling me saying, "Sorry my iphone is messed and I can't hear you". Extremely unproductive.

@Apple Support. Please get this resolved!!!!!!!!!!!!!

tl;dr; Reset didn't help. Apple Store replaced my phone.

I just got back from the Apple Store (after going through the official process via support app + phone call). They asked me to reset the iPhone and check if it still persists, which it did. So off to the Apple Store I went.

I had the same issue after updating to 12.1.2. They checked it and confirmed that it's an audio issue and even though I've been out of warranty for 2 months now they said they'd replace my phone as it was an issue after the update. They told me I now have 2 more years of warranty for the new phone. Very happy with their service.

It's quite a longstanding issue with the Audio IC board / chip, on this and other iphone / iPad models. Google it, there are quite detailed videos. You can reflow the chip yourself. However, it's been around a long time, and Apple won't recall it or fix it for free unless it's in warranty. It's the audio board flexing a small amount next to the sim tray, a structural weak point, which lifts a connection on the chip.

At this point, there is nothing we can do. Apple does offer trade in value for iphone 7 for $250 and 7 plus for $300 if you are to buy a new phone. If you are to get gift card, it will be lower.

And keep this in mind very very securely, THERE IS NOTHING YOU CAN DO TO FIX AN IPHONE LOGIC BOARD, nothing, absolutely nothing. And if anyone tell you or offer any suggestion or attemp to fix the phone, they are LYING. Their post will get deleted and possibly account banned. I hope you know what I mean.

True... I had watched YouTube about tear down and resembles, not worth it. The logic board has to be 100% apple certified. Any false china made logic boards are junk!

I don't want to risk my time for repair on this.

I own iPhone 7 256gb and waste... I notice a weird thing facetime finally work once a day, then fail on the next day.

My friend told me only the best way to keep trading to a newer iPhone to prevent adding updating iOS. Notice that iOS love to eating up the older iPhone if you don't update from the computer.

I have the same issue. Booked an appointment and went to meet service guys in store. Told me same ******** that software update opened up the hardware issue that was not detected by previous IOS versions. got the quote of CAD420+ tax to repair the phone. talked with the senior adviser on phone and gave me same story. Have 5 Apple devices in my house and been using Apple devices for years. Looks like not any more. Thank you Apple for not taking care of your loyal customers.
