iPhone XS Max - Top Heavy?

I've currently got an iPhone X and I'm considering getting an XS Max but the one thing I'm not sure about is how the phone balances in your hand/s when typing, say, a text.

When I'm typing a text with the iPhone X, the phone sits reasonably well balanced in my hand but because the XS Max is that bit taller I'm thinking it might be a bit "top heavy"?

The keyboard is obviously right at the bottom of the screen but there's a "whole lot of phone" above it which might need a firmer hold on the bottom of the phone to stop it tipping away from you than on an iPhone X?

I might be completely wrong and it might be more well balanced than I think but could XS Max users tell me what they think?

TIA Steve

iPhone X, iOS 11.1.2

If this is "important" for you I would advise calling in at your nearest Apple Store or Cellular Shop and giving the device a "Test Run", because what suits others may not you. We all tend to hold devices slighty differently (one or two handed, at the bottom or midpoint for example) and I would consider case choice can also come in to play with how a device feels in the hand.

This is a rather large financial commitment so getting it right first time would in my opinion be more likely by a visit to a shop, plus you can directly compare the XS max along side your current X for other aspects like screen size and weight.

The above is just my view but might be worth considering, enjoy the experience.

I took the plunge and bought an XS Max.

I like it.

It is a bit top heavy but I think I can live with it. The best thing is of course the screen but also the improved battery life compared to my X.

The build quality is pretty good (and so it should be) but I can feel the "seams" all the way around the phone where the screen meets the frame - nothing sharp but definitely an edge...

No problem, if distance is an issue I’m sure others will come along and give you their views, plus I suppose if you do decide to pull the trigger “unseen” you have 14 days to return the device if not completely satisfied.

It’s just “views“ are so personal, but I’m sure you are already aware of that, one last thought, take it an ”Away Day” train trip is also out of the question due to your remoteness.

Best of luck whichever way you choose to go forward.

Glad you like it, with respect to handling it will probably just be a matter of time before it becomes second nature.

FWIW, I moved from an SE which I used one handed to the X, which even now I tend to use two handed. You might find the same might happen, the XS Max might lend itself to a ”natural” two handed hold and if so “top heavy” could become irrelevant, time will tell.

Just enjoy it.
