Hey Siri is not working since iOS 12 update

I’ve checked all my Siri settings and everything is on. “Hey Siri” is not responding since I updated IOS 12. Any fixes?

iPhone 8, iOS 12.0.1, “Hey Siri”

I did it! I hard reset all my devices and now they all have Siri back

I hope it will work for you as well 🙂

To hard reset it's simple, if you already know it disregard this part

  • On iPhone 8 and later: Press and quickly release the Volume Up button. Press and quickly release the Volume Down button. Then, press and hold the Side button until you see the Apple logo on the screen..
  • On an iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus: Press and hold the Side and Volume Down buttons at the same time. Keep holding them until you see the Apple logo on the screen.
  • On an iPhone 6s and earlier, iPad, or iPod touch: Press and hold both the Home and the Top (or Side) buttons at the same time. Keep holding them until you see the Apple logo on the screen.

Here is the work around… I’ve tried the other suggestions, and even restored my phone for back up. None of that works.

In Settings go to Keyboard (Do not go to accessibility).

At the bottom of the menu options turn off dictation, wait 10 seconds, then turn it back on. Apple support told me that that does something like refreshing your connection.

As of the end of 10/18, it’s still not as good as system 11, but at least it gets it to work reasonably well.

There are three microphones on the iPhone, at least there are on my iPhone 6. It’s easy to look online for the way to test them. For me, that was not the problem. I reloaded system 12, and then I turned off dictation and turned it back on in 10 seconds. I’m not saying that that’s the required thing to do, But it worked for me. I dictated this note, and I’m pretty happy with its quality at this point.

Mary_TX, I took my phone in. The agent ran a diagnostic test and I have a defective front mic. As I am within the warranty period, I will be getting a new phone. Agent told me the software (iOS 12) detects hardware features in your phone and, if your phone has a feature which is known to be problematic, it shuts that feature down. This would explain why the front mic worked in iOS 11.4.1 and no longer worked once I upgraded. Apparently, iOS 12 must have found that the front mic in my iPhone was a problematic one, and it shut it down. Scared to upgrade the 4 other iPhones in our family as they are out of warranty!!!

You are not alone!

Since upgrading to iOS 12.0.1 from 11.4.1

Dictation only works via bluetooth and headphones with mic

Siri, pushing the home button, only works via bluetooth and headphones with mic

"Hey Siri" does not work. Also, after turning it off and trying to turn it back on, Siri no longer hears me to set it up

Front camera records video without sound unless headphones with mic are used.

Rear camera is okay

Phone calls are okay

Voice memo is okay

Tried:

Resetting network settings - no fix

Disconnecting bluetooth and reconnecting - no fix

Restoring as a new iPhone - no fix

Restoring backup - no fix

Apple says I should take my iPhone in. All evidence would say this is a hardware issue. But it happened after I upgraded to 12.0.1. All was fine morning before I upgraded.

Turning dictation off doesn't work for me, only the hard reset takes Siri back on my devices.

Yesterday I updated the iPad to 12.1 but after I checked that Siri was still working, then I updated

and till now everything is going smoothly , yeah!

BTW I noticed that Siri was not working after:

backing up the iPad/iPhone through iTunes,

connecting it to the power to recharge

and extra stuff like updating app directly from the app store on the device.

Now -SO FAR- I have done all that and Siri still works

I just updated my iPhone 8 to iOS 12.1 after hard reset and then updated .

I will post if there is something wrong again but if you don't hear from me

It means everything is fine and I really hope it will work for you all too 🙂
