Empty backup folder

I bought a new Win10 PC a couple of months ago. Have been backing up my iPhone and iPad via iTunes on it every few days ever since. iTunes says 'backing up', then 'synchronising'. The syncs with Outlook work fine.

Why would my backup folder be empty? Is there anywhere else the backups could be?

iPhone X, iOS 11.4, 256GB

See Locate backups of your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support. Are you looking in the right place?

I believe so. There's only one user.

There's nothing in iTunes that could be 'switched off' is there? As I said, it does claim to be backing up, so assume it means it.

I'm in hospital at the moment with my PC and a new iphone I wanted to restore to (old iphone was stolen just before I was admitted). So I'm a bit limited in what I can do.
