videos do not play on For You on Photos

Wife and I both use iPhone 6 running iOS 12. Recently she found she could not play videos on Photo Roll or Shared “For You”. How does she get them to play. Already did a soft and hard reset. Can’t delete and reinstall Photos.

Thanks for replying, Delnortian, and that additional info, it really helps! Since this seems to be isolated to her iPhone, your next step is to use iTunes on your Mac or PC to backup and restore your iOS software to factory settings, as this process erases the information and settings on your device and installs a fresh copy of the latest iOS software. Temporarily set up your phone as new to test your issues, and then restore your back up and test the issues again.

Hello Delnortian,

Thanks for that info and choosing the Apple Support Communities. If I understand correctly, your wife is unable to play videos in the Photos app on her iPhone, even after trying some good troubleshooting steps. To help narrow this issue down, please try importing these videos to a Mac or Windows computer and see if they will play there.

A follow up, when I tried to send a video from her phone to mine on a message, the Photo app was sluggish, took a long time to respond to my touch on the export icon (box and arrow). What followed was only the top of the usual screen of choices, AirDrop, but no row of choices; message, email &c. Did the same for a still photo. I notice becky_s22 has already suggested a Restore.

I’d come to the same conclusion, thanks for the links to the process. Hope that removes the excessive “Other” files and battery wear. Also noticed her Shared Photo alert sound not working even after toggled ON.

Videos play on her desktop computer (old Mac mini) but not her iPhone.
