Problem with resetting iPad mini

Hi!

I have an iPad mini 1 and I’m wanting to reset it and erase all content and settings. But whenever I go to reset it after I enter my Apple ID password, It says that the verification failed and there was an error connecting to the Apple ID server. I tried signing out of my ID and sign back in, but it won’t let me sign back in, it gives me this same message and also when trying to sign out of my iCloud account it gives me the same message. I’ve tired turning the power off on the device and turning it back on, but that didn’t change anything either. If any one can help me that would be great! 🙂
