Why are my i messages and texts so messed up after the IOS 12 update? HELP!
Took out sim card, restarted message app, toggles i messages -30 seconds off, toggles message in icloud, see that number and email are checked in recieve area, toggle items in contact info, restart device noth soft and hard,toggle airplane mode on/off 30 seconds, make sure sms and mms are on, reset network settings, etc.
Was your issue primarily yesterday? Apple had some significant back-end server issues going on which may have caused some oddities.
If you still see it today, have you ever shared an Apple ID in the past, and does that person(s) you shared the ID with have iMessaging issues on your end which correlate with what you're seeing?
You will need to define "messed up" before people can start making suggestions.
Is ANYBODY sharing an Apple ID?
Names have dissapeared from random contacts and only their phone number appears. Random numbers from ipones can not be sent i messages, reverts to SMS texts. Also randomly when someone responds to my text it starts on a new theead rather than a reply on the original. Something new every day! I have tried ALL of the tips when I gooled the problem and nothing has helped.

Good to know! It was terrible yesterday and only a couple of times today but if I go to click on a contact to send an i message it’s hit or miss if it will go through i message (blue). Some of my contacts are staying in iMessage mode but many of them are in sms mode (green) And a few people have not replied back so I’m not even sure if they are getting them. No one else has had my ID. I know most of the people that I have been texting have their own ID as well

OK, possibly a residual server issue then if all the other steps rule out the usual suspects.
