I have a second hand Mac and obviously its previous owner had IMovie installed since Appstore suggest updates for iMovie but will not update and ends in an error message.
How can I get rid off these update notifications and remove iMovie from the list of updates waiting for me to download?

I think that QuickTimeKirk is right.
You might try going to your System Preferences/Software Updates folder and unchecking some boxes, like "Automatically Update" and "Automatically Check for Updates". Don't know if that would work, but no harm in trying.

I was hoping I could somehow remove iMovie update from my account in AppStore as it is software that I do not have. It is annoying to get update notices for software you can not and will not update.
You'll need the Apple ID and password from the previous owner to remove their password and account info at the App Store.
