US iPhone XR EU compatible

I am looking to purchase an iPhone XR in the US. I travel to Europe occasionally, so when I went to Best Buy to buy my phone today, I noticed a sign that said their phones will not work in Europe. They referred me to www.apple.com/iphone/lte and, sure enough, the model they sell (A1984) only has North American countries on it.

What exactly does this mean? Does it mean it isn't tested in the EU? If I took it to the EU would the internet just be 3G? Would I have phone and text service only?

If their model does have issues in the EU, where do I need to go to get one that will work overseas?

For the first time, I agree with BestBuy. For a couple reasons, do not buy the XR model in the US. As shown in the LTE compatibility list, it is not compatible with countries of the EU.

BestBuy does NOT sell unlocked iPhones ever.

There is no international warranty.

At this time, no one in the US sells an unlocked iPhone XR.

While Verizon’s claim may be correct about it being compatible in 220 countries, I would consider Apple’s LTE compatibility list to be a better source of info. The phone may work in those countries, but as to how well LTE works would be debatable.

So the XR models we can buy in the US are not compatible at all in Europe? I'm really confused now because I just talked to Verizon and they said it is "compatible in 220 countries".
