I would like to order an unlocked iphone XR online using Apple's website, but the order process seems to require that you select a carrier. Is there a way to order the XR online without specifying a carrier or do you have to phone Apple to do that? I noticed that one can order the Iphone XS without a carrier easily at their website, but the ordering process for the XR is different.

If you select the One-time payment option, you'll be getting an unlocked iPhone XR anyway. It'll ship with the SIM card of the chosen carrier but it'll be unlocked and ready to use with any carrier.
At this time the XR is not sold as unlocked in the US. Other countries may vary.
I ordered my Xr without specifying a carrier, I had no trouble. Perhaps worth giving them a call?

I believe it is offered as unlocked in Canada as well, but not yet in the US. I guess we’ll have to wait and see where the OP is living.
